Floor lamps? Sort of, but not in the manner one normally expects. These look more like giant table or desk lamps used on the floor. Definitely divine!

Silver and Gold

Silver and Gold…. To some, it conjures up images of beautiful jewelry, weddings, and anniversaries. To others, Burl Ives and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. I do not have the jewelry loving gene but that doesn’t mean I don’t love silver and gold. For some unknown reason, I prefer to gaze upon metals instead of actually wearing them. During the holidays, I have always preferred decorating with silver and gold instead of the traditional red and green. Think of the simply amazing reflections you get from metal -ever changing with the light and surroundings. I am signing off before I digress into discussing alchemy or, maybe even, acupuncture.

Come On In!
Wednesday, June 24th, 2009
The first thing you notice when you enter your home (or someone else’s home) is the lighting in the foyer or the entry way. Then again, you might not notice it because it is just right for the space and the feeling of that particular home.
My house has a crazy design feature known as a “split entry”. I used to call it a “split foyer” and then I finally came to the realization that I don’t actually have a foyer so I was exaggerating/lying/wishing. Anyway, some insane architect(s) came up with this idea of designing a house that involves opening the front door to step onto about 8 inches of space and then having to make the choice whether to take 6 steps up or 6 steps down. The only saving grace in my home is that the entry has vaulted ceilings and an absolutely beautiful hanging lantern that lights up the entrance in the most amazing way when evening comes. Every so often, when the time of day is just right and things are quiet and I take the time to look around, I realize that my lantern is the one thing that makes my entrance inviting and (even possibly) pretty!
Light The Way

Since it is Father’s Day, I thought I should post about the type of lighting that actually excites my Father. “Excites” may be a bit of an exaggeration, but he most definitely was the person who either installed, repaired, or hired someone to deal with exterior lighting at our home. When motion detector lighting came out, he was the first person on our street to use it to use it to its fullest potential. Since we lived in a safe neighborhood, and he wasn’t one to be out late at night, I am fairly confident that his children were the intended targets of this new and exciting technology.
My parents have now moved on – to a smaller cozier retirement home and are lucky to have all of the exterior house issues dealt with by the homeowners association. This includes some really beautiful path lighting and a few gorgeous lantern-style fixtures that are timed to go on and off according to their lifestyle. No motion detection is involved.
