Gray is elegant and classic, you can pair it with almost any color and it’s a smash. From rich charcoals to sophisticated silvers, gray is a neutral that is anything but boring.

Lighting the Conservatory
Tuesday, April 28th, 2009
Once I figured out that conservatory is just the Brits way of saying “sunroom”, I developed an entirely new attitude towards my own sunroom. When we first moved in, we spent a lot of time hanging out in the sunroom and it was a very popular spot during parties. Then I came up with the crazy idea that it would be the perfect place for my home office and filled it with computers and printers and files and lots of paper. After a year or so of scheduling my work around the rotation of the sun, I vacated for a “real” office. Since then, our cute little sunroom has become a mish-mash of playroom, computer room, and sometimes – storage room. The photo above made me decide that I am now calling this room “The Conservatory”, taking out everything that isn’t conservatory-ish and pretending I am British every time I go in there (and drink my tea).

Layering Light in the Living Room
Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009
Lighting any room in your home involves selecting lights that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Your living room is a great place to work on your light layering skills. A unique and eye-catching overhead fixture will add a ton of style and provide the overall lighting for the room. You can also set up a cozy corner with a reading lamp and have the perfect spot to chill out with a book. Adding accent lights around mirrors, plants or artwork will turn your living room into a real haven in your home.
Bring the outside inside! This seems like a new trend but I think Thomas Jefferson started this one, and he is most definitely one to imitate.
