I found this gorgeous photo at the Domino Magazine website when I started my Deco File madness. This image is a great shot of how two simply beautiful lamps can add so much panache to a room.

Ambient Lighting
Ambient lighting, also known as general lighting, refers the overall level of light provided to make a room or space comfortable and pleasant for its particular use. Ambient lighting provides a specific area with brightness for a variety of activities including entertaining, watching television, or preparing dinner.
Task Lighting
Task lighting typically refers to a specific level of light provided on work areas such as kitchen counters, side tables, and desks. Task lighting helps you perform specific tasks such as cooking, reading, or playing a game of cards.
Accent Lighting
Accent lighting is used to focus on a specific area or object in order to add visual interest to a space. It can be used to spotlight artwork, plants, or even the texture of beautiful drapery.
The Rule of Three
Wednesday, January 28th, 2009
Basic interior design rules can come in handy when deciding how to use lighting to make a room pop. The rule of three is really the rule of odd versus even since two or four items together can often end up looking too “matchy-matchy”, and we certainly don’t want that to happen. This isn’t always the case since rules are meant to be broken ~ at least when it comes to making design decisions.
This fabulous photo was taken by Polly Wreford who is an interiors/lifestyle photographer with an amazing portfolio. You can spend hours getting inspiration from her photos and then incorporate some of her ideas into your own world.
